| This experiment evaluated the effect of adding macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata) cake replacing corn on body measurements and carcass characteristics of Santa Inês lambs. Twenty four 5-month-old uncastrated male lambs were tested using a randomized blocks design. Lambs were distributed into four experimental groups, receiving diets with 0, 100, 200 and 300 g/kg of macaúba cake. After 60 days in feedlot, measurements of body length, thoracic perimeter, height at the anterior and rump height were taken. The lambs were slaughtered, skinned and eviscerated. | Foi avaliada a influência da substituição da farinha de peixe pela farinha de minhoca (Eisenia foetida) no crescimento de pós-larvas de tilápia nilótica (Oreochromis niloticus). A farinha de peixe, que correspondeu a 50% da proteína da dieta, foi substituída pela farinha de minhoca nos seguintes níveis: 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% e 100%. Os peixes foram alimentados à vontade, quatro vezes ao dia, sendo pesados e medidos aos 21 e 41 dias de experimentação. O delineamento experimental foi o completamente casualizado, com quatro repetições por tratamento e 20 peixes por unidade experimental. | A observação visual do comportamento ingestivo em ruminantes, principalmente naqueles mantidos em pastagens, apesar de comumente utilizada com diferentes finalidades de estudo, é trabalhosa, pouca precisa e empenha grande quantidade de mão-de-obra. Com o avanço da tecnologia em geral, outras metodologias, que fazem uso de sensores mecânicos, ópticos e sonoros, mostram grande potencial de uso em ruminantes. A bioacústica, em particular, adequa-se em experimentos que necessitam tanto de macro quanto de microatividades, otimizando mão-de-obra e com custo relativamente baixo em comparação à outras metodologias automatizadas. | The ontogenic variations of nitrogen and carbon stable isotopic signatures (delta N-15 and delta C-13) were investigated in two spider crab (Maja brachydactyla) populations inhabiting in different biotopes of Western Europe. The Iroise Sea population is localized in Western Brittany and characterized by a seasonal migration occurring on a large bathymetric and habitat gradient while the Seine Bay population, in the Eastern English Channel, remains in a more homogeneous environment during its migration. | Respiration, excretion (NH4 and PO4) and feeding of zooplankton from the upper 200 m of the Almeria-Oran frontal region (western Mediterranean), were studied during winter 1997. Eight sites belonging to the three main hydrodynamic structures of the area (Mediterranean water, geostrophic Atlantic jet and associated anticyclonic gyre) were considered. Lowest values of respiration, PO4 excretion, O/P atomic ratio and particle ingestion were found in Mediterranean waters.
